I love these sorts of events. You get to take a peek behind the curtain in an informal and relaxed environment. When the glare of the cameras aren’t present and the artist can just sit and chat.
These events are never designed as gotcha moments, or to reveal great surprises, but more to let the audience in to a little bit more of the band than they would perhaps get when an artist is trying to sell a record or a tour.
What will Tim Wheeler reveal? Possibly despite being a huge international touring act, they still travel in transit vans to keep costs (and their egos) down?
I’ve been a fan of Ash since the mid 90s. That seems both an extremely long time ago and like, last summer. ‘Oh Yeah’ still hits with the same teenage ache that I loved the first time round. Ash are probably my most listen to band – Simply because I still listen to them now. Their longevity is incredible.
I was an obsessive! B-sides, Asia release versions, live versions, out-takes, show only releases, demos you name it, I’d hunt it down (and buy it if it were available!). I learned bass to all their songs until I released that performing wasn’t my future. I watched at least one show on every tour and even incredibly was able to promote Ash back in 2017 via my friend Rob Dahl at the Cheese & Grain.
I was lucky enough to work with Tim on some acoustic shows at Sound Knowledge in Marlborough for his solo album, as well as an acoustic show when the band returned to a trio. So my love has been consistent and ever lasting!
Now, with BBC 6 Music DJ Chris Hawkins taking a bunch of intimate Q&As on tour, I get to team up with Rob aka Hit Or MIss, once again to promote Tim Wheeler live and in conversation at the Cheese & Grain this October!
