Last year the wonderful and lovely Olivia Awbrey came and played The Lamb with her cohort Margaret Wehr (on violin) and American friend, who they picked up for the ride Rascal Miles.
This show came via Chris T-T, arguably the most respected and considered man within this scene, and someone who I will always take a tip off. He wasn’t wrong, and it really, really suited our venue. Plus it’s always nice to meet people from other countries. There’s that element of risk undertaken by someone, willing to travel half way round the world, with a really small pool of contacts, ploughing into the great unknown in the name of art and love. It’s humbling to support these people and create our own little notch of wonder around the world.
If musicians have bedposts full of notches, Devizes is certainly on all the ones that have played here. We regularly deliver the best atmospheres, with thew best people – A lot of which will welcome Olivia again this Friday, and maybe even welcome some new ones, though not at The Fold this time as we’ll be at the Cellar Bar.
This show follows the news that Olivia has hit their Kickstarter target, and have completed funding for the new album, a Feminism concept record, influenced by both her Portland hometown and London’s rock scene! More details here… Kickstarter.
Supporting the show will be Tim Clayton‘s HIGHER LOVERS. Tim is a local supporter of various scenes. Dipping his toe in all over the place. I met with him recently to discuss his dissertation, relating to age barriers within music. It was an interesting proposition and I welcomed the opportunity to talk about it. I don’t believe he has published it yet, and I haven’t read a copy, but I look forward to learning what he found out after speaking to various people.
